LeapTag Beta 0.8.4 - Known Issues
-
Installation/General:
- LeapTag can take up to two minutes to start running after the computer boots up. If you open the sidebar during the time the product is starting up, you may see an error page.
- If you open the LeapTag sidebar when the LeapTag application is not running, you will receive an error message. In addition your tags will not show in the toolbar.
Workaround: Restart the application then refresh your browser, or click on LeapTag icon in the browser toolbar.
- When multiple users run multiples copies of LeapTag on the same machine, LeapTag may crash.
- [Windows only] If you install LeapTag in a location other than default, you may see the following error message right after installation even though the browser is open: "LeapTag could not launch your default browser." You can close the error dialog and continue using Leaptag and/or your browser.
- [Mac only] If you open Activity Monitor, you may see that LeapTag.mac has the status "Not Responding". This does not point to any problem with LeapTag.
- [Mac only] If you are using a theme on your Firefox, LeapTag may not work properly. We have found out that LeapTag clash with some Firefox themes (for example, GrApple (EOS) 1.1).
-
Creating new tags:
- If you import a number of tags at once, it will take time for LeapTag to process them before it can show the first set of results. Please allow 10 minutes per tag when importing. This only occurs for the first set of results, subsequent results will take less time to appear.
- Currently LeapTag can only support up to 20 tagged interests. (Maximum allowed tags is 3 for online trial.)
- Creating a tag with angled brackets ("<") or quotes may break the sidebar's tag display.
-
Import:
- After importing tags, if you use the back button in your browser, it will navigate to the results page rather than the initial import page.
Workaround: Refresh the page instead of using the back button.
-
Sidebar:
- After your tag turns green, if you refresh the results, you may find that your results haven't changed. This is typically because LeapTag considered your votes or evaluated newly arrived news articles and blog posts but decided not to change your results.
-
Toolbar:
- The TagIt pop-up window may take several seconds to appear, especially if your network connection is slow.
-
Results:
- While we are constantly scrubbing the database to keep out spam, you may find some undesirable results. We continue to working on eliminating spam.
- When you hover over a result, extended excerpt in popup window may include non-alphanumeric characters.
-
Performance:
- LeapTag continuously monitors feeds in the background to show you articles that match your interests. Typically, this should not disrupt other work on your computer. However, on some older platforms, you may experience slowdown or increased fan noise (especially noticeable on some laptops).
Workaround: You can adjust how much average CPU LeapTag uses by opening Preferences page (if you have LeapTag installed, click here) and lowering LeapTag's average CPU usage.
-
Sharing:
- Tag sharing is not available yet.
Other Known Issues in Earlier Versions (0.8.0 - 0.8.3)
-
Installation/General:
- [Mac only] When LeapTag starts automatically, for example because of boot-up or log in, LeapTag home page will launch. Additionally, if LeapTag crashes due to any reason, Firefox will launch automatically to show the LeapTag home page.
- [Windows only] LeapTag may not work properly on Windows XP Media Center platforms.
- Log files that LeapTag Beta version is generating may increase in size. These files, located under your installation directory, are named main.<userid>.log. We sometimes ask our Beta users to send us these files in order to debug their problems.
Workaround: These files can be removed at any time. Our next release will have a patch to cycle these files in order to limit them to 7 days worth of data.
-
Import:
- After importing your RSS feeds, you may find that some of your feeds are not listed in your results. Although this is mainly due to the fact that there are no matching news/blog items in these feeds, we found out that sometimes the RSS import does not work properly.
-
Sidebar:
- [Mac only] When you create a new tag using 'Tag It' button in the toolbar, the URL used to create the tag may not show up in the sidebar. Closing and re-opening Sidebar fixes this problem.
-
Results:
- Results window may list news/blog items that have the same title and content. This is due to the fact that the same article/posting have been provided by multiple feeds.
